Let’s Sew Some Actual Quilt Blocks
Gather:
- the 48 B/C half square triangle units from an early cutting page
- the 12 A/F square in a square units from sewing page 1
- the 48 A/D/E square in a square units from sewing page 3
- all patchwork units should measure 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″
Assemble a Quilt Block
- Each block is made from four B/C half square triangle units, one A/F square in a square, and four A/D/E square in a square units.
- Refer to the illustration to arrange the units into three rows of three units each. Look closely at the angles of triangles in units as you are arranging the rows.
- Sew the three units in each row together. Press seam allowances towards the square in a square units.
- Join the rows. Use straight pins whenever necessary to keep fabrics from shifting.
- Press the quilt block. It should measure 12-1/2″ x 12-1/2″.
- Repeat to make a total of 12 quilt blocks.
Option
You might prefer to wait until more pieces of the quilt are complete before arranging the patchwork. Units can be flip-flopped for an entirely different appearance.
